R-X-983 Hanael (Roughly translating to "Tongue" in Neo-Kiiro) is a planet in the outer reaches of the Orion Arm. It is situated about 23,000 Light Years away from Old Earth*. The planet has a temperate climate, with water making up approximately 65% of the planet's surface, with most landmass being composed of deep forests. The average temperature is 19 degrees Celsius.
Hanael orbits a C-type star, with 3 other planetary neighbours and 1 natural satellite. The vast majority of the system is made up of space debris from formation.
Neighbouring planets include R-X-980 "Birmingham" - a similar planet which was more mild. No natives. Easy to establish and colonise, despite low fertility. Low population; R-X-989 - Gas Giant. Curiously, no moons. Finally, R-X-990 - a dwarf planet that orbits at extreme distances.
The planet was successfully terraformed by one of the many nanite swarms before the arrival of the first wave of colonists in 4500. It is commonly agreed that the terraforming likely began in 3007 and concluded around 4300. Investigation into this is on going by many of the planetary factions, though there has been little success. Much of the fauna was found to be as expected of an earth-like planet, bar the oddity that was the Kiiro.
As of 5510, the planet remains divided between various factions, the main three being the loosely connected "native" population of "cat" people**. This faction was displaced heavily by Human colonisation, with much of their former homelands torn and shredded to create the loose industrial society that is the Lononir Treaty Federation - an industrial society which focuses heavily on manufacturing and research.
The final faction is little known, being similar to the Kiiro in genetic nature. Very rarely have they been sighted but their presence is well known. They commonly go by mocker such as "Sky elves" or "Angels". What is known is they don't like Mankind having a presence on the planet. They are officially identified as, and by what the handful of neutrals call themselves: Milira.
Several other factions exist, including many more cases of curious genetic mix-ups that science has yet to answer. A non-exhaustive list:In general, the geography of Hanael is similar to earth - a high concentration of lighter silica materials at the surface, with heavier ferrous and other sorts increasing with depth. It is speculated that the planet underwent a similar event to the Great Iron Catastrophe documented in records regarding old earth, as radar and Magnetic Anomaly Detectors showcase this to be the case.
Majority of rock formations and minerals are mafic.
Volcanism is present but not commonplace, with most volcanic events occurring inside the ocean. Despite this, there are geysers on the surface.
Despite the planet being settled approaching 1000 years ago, the planet has only recently began to gain cohesion. This as due to the extensive period of history where Kiiro engaged in guerrilla campaigns against any human settlements they could find. This was exacerbated by Milira bombing runs which targeted landing points of craft as well as also destroying orbital merchants and transport craft.
This came to forefront in the Battle for Hanael 5300, where Milira launched a interplanetary war against all human inhabited planets in the system. This was narrowly won at heavy cost with the deployment of Synthetic Infantry by 19th Legion, who were deployed by the Birmingham Council in return for weapons testing.
After the war, 19th Legion set up designated zones that it control - officially, military sites. Little is known at what occurs here. Lononir Treaty - the sole remaining power after the war - accepted and signed the Birmingham Treaty accepting this in return for future defence against any Milira attacks. This was heavily contested by the Tribe of Red Flow - a future founding member of Romiea.
In 5400, the Confederation of Romiea was formed, officially opposing this decision. This brings us roughly to present - where in 5510 a uneasy cold war has been on going. There is a few things on going that are to be noted:*(according to logs found - it is likely this has increased over the past hundred years since organised records have began) Repeated failures to identify old earth in the sky mean this number remains inaccurate as of now.
**It is uncertain if they are genetically modified people who resemble cats, products of terraforming malfunctioning or a species that managed to evolve in such a short time. The fact that when deciphered the genetics are similar to homo-sapien but with significant differences in many sections of code indicates that perhaps the answer is a combination. About 57% is similar to that of earth, whilst the remainder is a baffling concoction. It is argued by many scientists on Hanael that this requires more investigation.
***No unified faction exists for the Ratkin, due to the Battle for Hanael.
